Viennese classical and Nordic programme with Varpu Heikinheimo, violine
Works by Mozart, Brahms, Stenhammar, Sibelius and Grieg.
Daniel and Varpu started their duo while studying at Hochschule fur Musik Theater und Media in Hannover, Germany. They continued to study chamber music in Vienna at MUK – Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien for Prof. Hartmut Pascher specializing in Wiener classical and Nordic repertoire.
Varpu Heikinheimo grew up in Finland and started to play the violin at the age of 3 with the Suzuki method. She is a graduate of the Hannover music university and has freshly finished her master degree at the Sibelius-Academy. Important teachers along the way have been Lara Lev, Jukka Merjanen, and Silja Raitio-Heikinheimo. She has attended in many master courses with Pavel Vernikov, Igor Volochine, Petru Munteanu, Vilmos Szabadi, Tuomas Haapanen to name a few.Varpu Heikinheimo has played the premier of Harri Wessman ́s violin concerto and has played as a soloist with Jokisali-chamber orchestra and the orchestra of Vantaa institute. Chamber music tours have taken her England, Lithuania and Sweden. With the Tremor-string quartet, supported by the Wegelius-foundation and the Finnish cultural foundation, she wan the Kees-Wiebenga Stipend for the best chamber music performance at the Kuhmo festival. As a soloist of the Musik am Nachmittag –concert series, she played over 25 concert around Germany in 2012. She is a laureate of two international competitions, in “Citta ́ di Francavilla Fonatana” with the Premio 1. prize and in “Citta di Barletta” with the 2. prize.
