Biography

Daniel Beskow is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist from Sweden. After his solo debut recital in Copenhagen in 2012, Daniel Beskow has established himself as one of Scandinavia’s most interesting and versatile pianists with around 100 concerts per year. He has been praised for possessing an extraordinary musical intelligence and his playing has been described as sensational. The project “Fairytales” with Daniel’s great-grandmother Elsa Beskow’s original pictures has become a great success with hundreds of concerts in Scandinavia and Germany. Together with mezzo-soprano Josefine Andersson Daniel created Nordic Light Duo and ”Fairytales” was recorded in May 2022 and release in September the same year. The recording was nominated for OPUS klassik awards in Germany 2023 in the chamber music category and has received excellent reviews.

In 2019, Daniel released his first recording with Franz Schubert’s Winterreise together with Johannes Held, Baritone that also received excellent reviews and was nominated for the best newcomer of the year at the OPUS klassik awards. Beskow studied at Edsberg Castle, The Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Musikhochschule in Hannover (HMTMH), The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and MUK in Vienna. He considers his teachers Peter Feuchtwanger in London and Jiri Hlinka in Norway as his most important and lasting influences. Beskow has profiled himself as an accomplished performer of Viennese, German and Scandinavian composers such as Mozart, Schubert, Grieg, Sibelius and Stenhammar. Besides that, he is a passionate Lied pianist and chamber musician.

Daniel Beskow studied at the Royal College of Music and Edsbergs Institute of Music in Stockholm, followed by studies in Norway with Jiri Hlinka and in London with Peter Feuchtwanger. He has taken his Soloist Diploma at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Niklas Sivelöv and Hochschule fur Music und Theater Hannover with Einar Steen-Nökleberg. He has participated in Masterclasses with Andrzej Jasinski, Ronald Brautigam, Liisa Pohjola and Hans Leygraf amongst others.

Daniel has recieved many prizes and awards including 1st prize in the Royal Danish Academy of Music soloist competition 2010, where he also won 1st prize in the Chamber Music Competition 2010 and was a prizewinner in the Academy’s piano competition 2012. Audience Prize in the Danish Radio P2 competition 2011 and finalist in the “young and promising” competition in Sweden 2011 with piano trio Scandza. Winner of several awards and scholarships from the Swedish Royal Academy of Music, Konstnärsnämden- The Swedish arts grant committee and RWA DEA scholarship for studies in Germany amongst others.
